Alexander Mentele Obituary

WA - #justdancealex

Alex was born in Seattle, WA to Kathleen (Tina) and Steve Mentele and grew up in Everett, WA. At his core, Alex was a humanitarian dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging. He was

also a gifted dancer and entertainer. Beginning in elementary school he used his talents to benefit countless others through charitable work and fundraising.

Alex was Mr. Gay Seattle in 2012, the elected representative of the greater Seattle LGBTQ community and acted as the face of the non-profit organization, working to promote education, outreach and fundraising.

Alex was masterful at bringing people together and chose a career in human resources where he championed sustainable and equitable workplace practices for companies including Starbucks, Fastly, MOD, Lyft, Solar City and Tesla.

Alex passed away suddenly in New Orleans in December. He was preceded in death by his mother Tina; his cousins Nicky Phelan and

Emilio Phelan; and his beloved Uncle Dan Phelan. Alex is survived by his father Steve; his sister Elle

Petrie; and many aunts; uncles; and

cousins. He has danced away with their hearts.
