Alice "Ally" Elinor Whitmore, 89, of Auburn, died June 13, 2023, in an Auburn family group home.
Alice was born on January 2, 1934 ("1234"), to John and Ellen (nee Mathew) Winter in Seattle WA. She attended West Seattle High School, and she ran her horse, Big Joe, at the Longacres racetrack in the 1953 and 1954 "Run for the Carrots" amateur races.
She married Don Whitmore and they raised six children, Cathy, Bill, Matt, Nancy, Peggy, and Stuart. Alice helped Don build and manage a mobile-home park, and she also operated a home-based day care.
Alice is survived by her beloved husband, brother Kenneth, two sons, three daughters, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Denis and Jim, and her son Matt.
Interment will be at a private family ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn with Pastor Phill Stone officiating. A Celebration of Life for family members will be scheduled for August. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Backstretch Chaplaincy at the Emerald Downs racetrack (chapeldowns.org/).
