It is with heartfelt sorrow that we commemorate the life of Ann Marjorie Gates, who passed on December 20, 2024, in Olympia, Washington. Born on February 5, 1940, in Tacoma, Washington, Ann spent 84 full and vibrant years touching the lives of many.
Ann was the cherished wife of Bob Gates, with whom she shared over six decades of marriage, having wed in Fort Lewis on June 17, 1961. Together, they crafted a legacy of love and dedication, nurturing their family with grace and wisdom. Ann's profound impact survives in her children, Mike Gates and his spouse Michele; and daughter Beth Wiseman and her spouse Aric. Her love and guidance extend further to her four grandsons, Riley, Evan, Kolby and Logan; and one great-grandson, Jameson, who will carry forward her legacy and values.
A proud alumnus of North Thurston High School, Ann graduated in 1958, before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from the University of Washington in 1961. Her professional life saw her thrive as a registered nurse, a role in which she combined her intellect and compassion to care for those in need. Ann held prestigious roles such as the Past Grand Matron in her 70 years with the Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star organizations, embodying leadership and dedication.
Known for her social nature and family-oriented spirit, Ann Gates found joy in life's simple pleasures. Her talents in knitting and sewing were a testament to her creativity, and she maintained a deep affection for her community, particularly through her involvement with Eastern Star.
As we bid farewell to Ann, we remember her as a beacon of warmth and love, preceded in death by her beloved parents, Willard and Jean Newton. The family finds comfort in their shared memories and Ann's enduring presence in their hearts.
Services to honor Ann's life and legacy will be held at Tumwater Chapel for Funeral Alternatives, 455 N St SE, Olympia, on Saturday, January 25th at Noon.
