Barbara Schaff Moffat (Barb) Obituary
Barbara Schaff Moffat, 94, our beloved Mom and Mam Mam, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12 with family by her side. She left behind an original legacy of strength, faithfulness, and radiance.
Barbara was born in Council, Idaho in 1928 to Edith and Paul Schaff as the youngest of three children. Her fond memories of growing up in a small town were only some of the many stories she loved sharing with her family and friends.
Barbara graduated from the University of Idaho in 1950 with a degree in Accounting. She moved to the big city, Seattle, where she began working as an accountant for Allied Stores (the Bon Marché) and she worked there for more than 35 years.
In 1957, Barbara married Robert Edward Moffat and they shared 64 loving years together. Robert (Bob) passed away on July 19, 2021.
Barbara and Bob raised five sons in the Beacon Hill and Lakeridge neighborhoods in South Seattle. Along with other families, they were founding members of St. Paul Catholic Church where the boys attended grade school and where Barbara and Bob were active volunteers in their sons' school life, their parish and where they established many life-long friends. Barbara and Bob's home was the center of many gatherings for extended family and friends. Everyone loved Barbara's delicious and homemade cooking!
Barbara and Bob traveled many places especially to their favorite, Oregon Coast, with their dear friends the Bucks.
We are blessed for the long lifetimes of our Mom/Mam Mam and Dad/Papa and everything with which they taught and inspired us with their love, humor, and endless support.
Barbara is survived by her brother Paul E. Schaff (101) of Portland, OR, sister MaryLou Esparza (99) of Whittier, CA; sons Michael (Deborah), Gerald (Myrna), Paul (MaryLou), Richard, Edward (Michelle); grandchildren Sarah, Elizabeth (Kyle), Brendan (DeAnna), Peter, Joseph (Jennifer), Stephanie, Alexandra, Monica, Matthew, Maggie; great-grandchildren Robert, Lena, Madison; a large extended family and many loyal friends.
