Bothell, Washington - Bjorn Roar Kristoffersen died at the age of 88 on November 13, 2020, in Bothell, Washington, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Tromso, Norway, on July 11, 1932, to Sigfred and Mathilde Kristoffersen, his childhood and formative years would largely be spent in that city, where his mother served as a teacher, and his father engaged in Arctic research.
Joined in marriage to Liv Sandvik on New Year's Eve 1953, their new life together would initially follow his pursuit of an education, first in Trondheim, and then to the USA, where in 1960 he would graduate with a degree in engineering from the University of Kentucky.
Having been recruited by Boeing, they - together with their infant son - would settle in Seattle, Washington, where the family would continue to grow throughout the ensuing decade. It was also during this time that many lifelong friendships were established.
The 1980s would see a return to their homeland and signal a career change from aerospace to oil exploration, first with Mobil, and then Statoil, before retirement would bring them back to the Seattle area for good.
He had a passion for design, building, and remodeling that continued throughout his life. Retirement allowed him to undertake home projects both large and small, while also leaving time for his other primary interest: travel.
His last years were marked by decline due to the onset of Alzheimer's, leaving loved ones with a progressive sense of loss as the disease took its toll.
A devoted husband and father known for his kindness and generosity, he will be truly missed.
Preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, he is survived by sons Kjartan (Robyn), Steinar (Melissa), and Leif; daughter Berit; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a younger sister currently residing in Sweden.
Plans for a memorial are pending.
