Blaine Gibson Hammond Obituary

Washington - Blaine G. Hammond died peacefully on January 14, 2022 at 98. Blaine graduated from Wausa High School, Nebraska, and from the University of Nebraska. He married Eloise Carlson in 1942. Blaine was drafted into the Army following WWII. He worked with the Army Air Corps in Washington, DC, and at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin. Following the Army he attended North Park College in Chicago and graduated from Union Theological Seminary. He was ordained in the Methodist Church and served Selah Methodist Church, Asbury Methodist Church in Tacoma, and was Director of the Wesley Foundation at the University of Washington. During his tenure there Eloise died. Blaine left the ministry a year later and began working at the University of Washington. In 1969 he married Solweig Ekström. They lived in Sweden for two years where he taught English, and after returning to Seattle Blaine began working on income taxes. He opened The Tax Center in Kirkland, where he worked until retirement in 2001.

Blaine and Solweig lived on a floating home on Portage Bay as part of Houseboat Harbor, Inc. (HHI) until Solweig died in 2008. Blaine continued to live there until 2018 when he moved to Vineyard Park Retirement Home in Mountlake Terrace.

Blaine was predeceased also by his great-grandson Isaiah Ganz, his brother-in-law Val Thaden, and his sister Marcia Meisner (Gary). He is survived by three sisters: Bonnie Thaden, Dawn Frederick (Jerry) and Becky James (Dean); his four children, Blaine R. (Elizabeth Forbes), Beth Lanie (Howard), Malana Ganz (Steven) and Paula Ekström (Thomas Blomberg); his grandchildren, Dawn Meyer, Sheila Hammond-Todd, Justin Hammond, Mindy Lanie, Amy Rohr, Carol Blackman, Sarah Hernandez, Teresa Sidwell, Nathan Ganz and David Ganz and spouses; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
