Brian James Austin Obituary

Brian James AUSTIN. Brian was born at Swedish Hospital in Seattle on March 7, 1962 to James R. & Barbara H. (Pat) Austin. He passed away January 27, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer. Brian grew up on Magnolia and was a 1980 graduate of Queen Anne High School.

During the 80's Brian raced powerboats in the APBA Comp Jet and "Whitewater" River-Jet classes, and crewed on brother Randy's 7-liter hydroplane . He also helped repair and modify many of the local unlimited and inboard hydroplanes at the major boat shops in the south end. Later, Brian worked in the air cargo business at SeaTac and, in more recent years, entered the commercial plumbing supply business, most recently working at Braley Gray/Commercial Application Sales, before retiring to his home in Mountlake Terrace a few years ago.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother Randy. Brian is survived by his boys - Ryan (Shelby) and Jaykob (Allison) Sells of Mountlake Terrace, who he helped raise from a very young age through travel-ball, college and into adulthood; his brothers Tim (Christy) of Mill Creek and Kevin (Alicia) of Bellevue; and sister-in-law Patty of Shoreline. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, 7 grandnieces and grandnephews and the boys' three children. Brian was affectionately known as "Buddy" to the boys, and "Uncle Bum" to his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their thanks to his caregivers; also, his former co-workers at Braley Gray who (along with the Seattle Fire Department) extended Brian's life on several occasions. Donations may be made in Brian's name to the Queen Anne High School Alumni Association Scholarship Program, PO Box 9128 , Seattle, WA 98109-0128, or the Mountlake Terrace High School Booster Club at 21801 44th Avenue West, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043 for the benefit of the baseball program. A memorial event will be announced at a later date.
