We've lost a good and honorable man after an extended illness. Carl was an extremely hard-working family man, the beloved husband of Judith for 59 years, and father and mentor to his daughter, Cynthia, and son, Carl Jr. He was also a soldier in the U.S. Army for six years.
When Carl was only 13 years old, he had the biggest paper route in south Seattle, 105 papers. His father was ill and Carl delivered papers through the harsh winter of 1949-1950, on a bicycle, before school, through deep snow. What a kid!
Carl attended Edison Technical School, becoming an apprentice carpenter. He was an employee of the Highline School District for 25 years. He worked on the floor crew for 15 years and 10 years as the head custodian at Bow Lake Elementary. He retired at age 56 and managed his own landscaping business for 10 years. After his retirement from the district, he began his hobby of making wine, delicious fruit wines of cranberry, raspberry, rhubarb, and cherry. His wine would knock your socks off!
Carl was one of six children. He was a twin, last child born. He will be interred near his twin brother, John.
Carl is survived by his wife, Judith; his daughter, Cynthia; and son, Carl Jr. (Julie). He is also survived by his beloved older brother, Bill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
We're bereft - we've lost our rock.
Special thanks to Dr. Liu and his staff. Thank you also to all the nurses and support at Kaiser Permanente and St. Peter Hospital.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 1:00 p.m. at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501.
