Charles Michael Cushing (Mike) Obituary

Washington - In Loving Memory of

Charles Michael Cushing

May 4, 1944 - January 31, 2026

Charles Michael Cushing was, quite simply, the definition of love. Gentle in spirit and generous in heart, he moved through the world with a blue‑eyed twinkle that told you immediately you were safe, seen, and about to laugh. He was the funniest man we knew - head-back laughing at his own jokes and a dear friend to all who were lucky enough to know him.

Irish through and through, dad loved his heritage with pride and heart. He carried that Irish warmth wherever he went—whether traveling through Europe, swapping stories, or simply sharing a laugh that made strangers feel like old friends. His gift for connection knew no borders, and his love of adventure was always paired with an appreciation for history, culture, and a good pint-worthy story.

Mike found joy in life's simplest, sweetest moments: homemade cookies with a cold glass of milk...always milk, Sunday drives with nowhere in particular to be, endless ferry boat rides, finger tapping to a tune only he could hear, and long professional‑level naps that he took with admirable dedication. He was a nurturer of small things - people, pets, hummingbirds, ideas and had a special gift for making everyone feel cared for, a quiet presence, or just being exactly where you needed him to be.

Happiest by the water, Papa's heart lived at Lake Chelan, along the ocean, in Hawaii, and on picnic blankets at Deception Pass. He loved Christmas mornings, fresh snow, football games, and the hum of a finely built 1/16th hydro racing across the water. A proud Blanchet alumni and Lion Club champion, he believed in showing up, giving back, and doing the right thing with kindness, humility, and a sense of humor.

Above all else, our Dad adored his wife, Sarah, his daughters Vicci (Mark) and Lysa (Eric), his grandchildren Madison and Bennett, his beloved Poppy dog, and the life they built together. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. His laughter, gentleness, and steady presence will be missed more than words can say-but his love remains, carried forward in stories, smiles, Sunday drives, and every quiet moment by the water.
