NV - Cherished husband, father, grandfather and former longtime Spokane resident Charles R. "Chuck" Owens died Nov. 29, 2025, in a Reno, Nev., care center of causes related to age. He was 95.
Born Sept. 17, 1930, in Spokane, Wash., Chuck was the eighth of nine children of John and Olivine Owens of Reardan. He grew up during the Great Depression and graduated from Reardan High School in 1948. He later moved to Spokane and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Gonzaga University in 1952 while working his way through college. Following graduation, Chuck served two years in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a bookkeeper and accountant.
In 1953, he married Kathleen "Kath" Parker in Shelby, Mont. The couple settled in Spokane and raised five children: Jerry, Lynn, Theresa, John, and Mary K. Chuck worked as a salesman and later as a sales manager for Burroughs Corp., eventually becoming district manager in Reno in 1975.
The family relocated to Reno that year, but tragedy struck in 1978 when Kath passed away unexpectedly at age 49. Chuck continued to raise their children — two of whom were still at home — while maintaining his career.
Chuck found great joy in his family. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, rarely missing their performances or sports events. His pride in them was unwavering.
He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Jerry Owens (Miriam Hewitt), Lynn Stapp (David), Theresa Hays (James), John Owens (Mary), and Mary K. Knobel (Mark); his brother Jerry Owens; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service and Celebration of Life have also been scheduled. Chuck's memory will be celebrated with laughter, stories, and love shared by all who knew him. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee-Reno Meadows. To learn more, go online to https://bgctm.org/get-involved/donate/
