Washington - What a wonderful person Diane was! She was kind, generous, compassionate, and had a great sense of humor. She loved music, dancing, playing bridge, and trying her luck at the slot machines at Tulalip. Above everything else, she loved her family. She was the best mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend that anyone could ever have.
Diane was born in Port Edwards, Wisconsin on October 20, 1932 and died at her home in Bothell, Washington on January 14, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Irene Chapin; brother, Ellwood; sister, Mary Jane Garcia; husband, Carl; and daughter, Susan Burnett, who passed away on January 15, 2018.
Diane and her family settled in Seattle after coming out by train to escape Wisconsin's extreme cold and hot weather in December of 1942. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1950, and in 1952, she married Douglas Hutchinson. They moved throughout the country during his service in the Air Force, but when they divorced in 1962, she moved back to Seattle to be near family. In 1965, she married Carl McNulty. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing.
In 1950, Diane was hired by Safeco Insurance Company to be a policy typist. For someone who didn't expect to be hired, she had a long, successful career with the company. Although she took a break from Safeco for ten years, she worked in word processing when she returned and later became supervisor of the Forms Control Varitype department. At the time of her retirement in 1994, she was supervisor of Publishing Operations.
Along with her daughter, Sue, Diane was a member of Lakeside Chapter of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron of the chapter in 1993, 2000, and in 2007. She was a Deputy Instructor in 1996 and was appointed as Grand Representative of North Dakota in 2004. Although she was no longer able to attend Eastern Star meetings and functions, she kept up to date with the activities and always spoke fondly about her friends in the organization.
Diane is survived by her daughter, Pam Fuelling (Wayne); granddaughter, Aubriana Teeley (James Dennett); grandson, Shea Teeley; brother and sister-in-law, Jud and Pat Chapin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held for family on February 5, 2022 at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Everett. To view a video tribute to Diane, go to Evergreen-FH.com. Remembrances may be made to an organization of your choice.
