Dwight Hyland, beloved husband, father and grandfather, left this world peacefully and entered the gates of heaven on January 7, 2025 in Seattle surrounded by his wife and daughters. He will be remembered for his kindness, curiosity, humility and ever present sense of humor.
Born in Adak, AK, and raised in Port Angeles, WA, he graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in English and Electrical Engineering. He went on to earn a MBA from Seattle University. Dwight had a remarkable career at the Fluke Corporation that spanned decades. He had many professional achievements but was most proud of the relationships he built with colleagues. Dwight had a strong faith and was an active member of Queen Anne Presbyterian Church where he served on the board of elders. After retirement, Dwight's happiest times were spent at the family cabin surrounded by his wife, two daughters, son-in-law, two precious grandsons and Sal the dog. The cabin was his "happy place". There he would relax, entertain numerous friends and extended family and wear flannel shirts all day long.
Dwight has given his family so much love and so many happy memories. Of never shaving on vacation and salty summer boat trips. Of numerous "dad" jokes and poetry from Robert Burns. Of his deep love of music from rock concerts to the Seattle Symphony. He had a passion for problem solving, to-do lists, and task completion; but still had the ability to be completely spontaneous. Most importantly, he taught his family the correct way to arrange firewood to achieve maximum combustion.
Dwight leaves behind his heartbroken family; beloved wife, Tricia; daughters Bridget, Margot (Charlie) and grandsons Ike and Oscar; sisters Evelyn and Doris as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be conducted this spring. Donations may be sent to Queen Anne Presbyterian Church or Harborview Mission of Caring Fund.
