Shoreline, Washington - Edith "Edie" Emeline Elston Ervin died on April 18, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Granville, ND, she was raised on a farm before moving to Seattle 75 years ago in search of opportunity. She earned an associate's degree in accounting from Seattle Community College and worked for University of Washington Nobel Laureate Dr. E. Donnall Thomas, a pioneer in bone marrow transplants. Edie later worked in the comptroller's office for the Seattle Public Schools retiring in 1994.


Edie had a passion for music. A longtime subscriber to the Seattle Symphony and 5th Avenue Theatre- she had a particular love for The Phantom of the Opera. She enjoyed fine dining and travel. She was a member of P.E.O. International and actively supported local charities advocating for animals and women.


A longtime member of Queen Anne United Methodist Church, Edie served as a greeter and hospitality coordinator.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Robert "Bob" Ervin; niece Lila Rabon Chapman; and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by great nephews, Reese and Reonn Rabon, as well as nieces and nephews in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota and Texas.


A celebration of life will be held May 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Queen Anne United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Seattle's Mary's Place shelter.
