WA - Edward Lawrence Fisher, honored and beloved by all, died peacefully on October 5 at the inspiring age of 95. As an only child born to Rose and Henry Fisher on February 22, 1930, Eddie was a true Seattleite. Growing up on Capitol Hill, graduating and serving as a Yell King at Garfield High School and the University of Washington, and raising his family in Clyde Hill, Eddie's heart was rooted in every corner of the community.
He often told stories about his childhood during the Depression era and about joining his father in the canning business in the 1950s. In the iconic year of the 1962 World's Fair, he married his beloved Babs (Schwartz) and enjoyed 42 years with her until her passing in 2004. Eddie was shaped by, and in turn helped shape, the city around him.
Eddie was unforgettable. If "to be known for all of your idiosyncrasies is to be known," then he was known and cherished completely. He was a man of style and spirit-- a driver of cool cars, a photographic aficionado, a dedicated ski instructor, and one of the only people who could unabashedly, and well before his time, fashion tracksuits and fanny packs.
A creature of habit, Eddie frequented his favorite destinations (Sun Valley, Hawaii and Palm Springs) and in his later years, he could consistently be spotted at the bank, the post office, Costco or his favorite breakfast restaurant, The Brief Encounter Cafe. To Eddie, it was the 'Canlis of the Eastside' because they would always cater to his specific orders and his legendary chocolate Cokes.
Eddie rarely missed an opportunity to raise a glass and make a toast, and he was blessed with endless reasons to do so. Surrounded by a large and loving extended family, he is survived by his three sons, Eric, Rodney (Lauren), Craig (Kim); nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
We raise our glasses to the friend, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who has shown us how to live a full life and whose unique spirit will remain a blessing to us all.
