Emilie Ann Adams, of Renton and Seattle, Washington died peacefully on July 12, 2023.
Emilie was born on July 3, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to William and Dorothee Delventhal. Emilie was the second of three daughters and enjoyed spending time with her older sister Marie and her younger sister Dorothee, forming lifelong bonds with both.
Emilie received a BS degree from Pratt Institute in 1954 and earned a Master's degree from Columbia University in 1955, majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences.
Emilie was married to Robert Adams in August of 1956 and moved to Seattle shortly thereafter so he could begin work for the World's Fair. While they later divorced, Emilie remembers Robert as giving her two beautiful children, Eve and Seth. She later remarried and enjoyed more than 25 wonderful years together with Richard (Dick) Joy before he passed away in June 2013. Emilie and Dick enjoyed their winters together in San Jose del Cabo and summers in Seattle spending time with friends and family.
Emilie enjoyed a very active and successful professional life, starting her career doing public relations and classroom demonstrations with the Washington State Dairy Council and U&I Sugar, among others. She subsequently joined the Better Business Bureau of Greater Seattle in 1972, rising quickly to become President, retiring in 1993. She was also appointed to the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank, Seattle branch, serving from 1992-1995.
Emilie was a lifetime member of Euthenics, a non-profit organization of home economists dedicated to the profession of Family and Consumer Sciences, recently receiving recognition as a 65-year member and she took great pride in how the organization has evolved through the years.
Emilie was preceded in death by her first husband Robert in 2001, her second husband Dick in 2013, and her sister Marie in 2021.
Emilie's life will be remembered and cherished by the lives of her daughter, Eve Adams, her son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Rebecca Adams, all of Seattle, Washington, and her 2 grandchildren, Hannah Adams and Holden Adams. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothee and Henry Schriever, her late husband Dick's children and their families, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends.
At Emilie's request, no funeral or memorial services will be held. Remembrances may be made to Euthenics, 14514 20th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125.
