Florence Louise Scarff, a beloved mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday October 30. She would have been 96 on November 3.
Born in Kent in 1926 to Leo and Ethel Sizer, Florence (Flo to her many friends) was an only child and graduated from nurses training in 1948 from Seattle Pacific College. Her caring spirit, accompanied with a warm smile, was exhibited throughout her life as she found time to actively participate in the Seattle Ryther Group and PEO Sisterhood, drive cancer patients to their appointments, and spearhead outreach for the 1962 World's Fair among many community focused endeavors.
Flo's life was centered around the raising of her family, shared with her husband of 70 years, Robert W. Scarff. Together they enjoyed the outdoor life of the Pacific Northwest, with hiking, skiing and boating all being regular family affairs. Bob and Flo were also world travelers that always came home with a new perspective and a deeper appreciation of the life they lived. Flo had a great passion for gardening whether at home in Auburn or later in life at their winter home in Tucson. Her rose garden and many pets always brought her joy. Flo had a long and abundant life.
Preceded in death by her husband Robert, survivors include daughters Leanne (Paul) of Santa Fe, NM; Dianne (Jim) of Lafayette, CA; Robin (Fred) of Canyon Lake, TX; son Way (Lisa) of Auburn, WA; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, WA on May 20th, 2023 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation to America's Vet Dogs, a non-profit that provides assistance dogs to support disabled veteran and active service members at no charge to them (www.vetdogs.org 866-838-3647) or a gift to Frolic Pet Services, who were very supportive of Flo (www.frolicpetservices.com 206-455-4952, 1741 S 227th Pl, Des Moines, WA 98198).
