Forrest Inslee (Woody) Obituary

Washington - Captain Forrest "Woody" Inslee began his law enforcement career with the King County Sheriff's Office in 1970. He proudly served many areas and divisions in his 27 years and especially enjoyed working patrol. Most of his career was spent at the North Precinct.

As a detective, he particularly enjoyed working with the prosecutor's office and Boeing investigators. The investigation involved counterfeit airplane parts and led to the grounding of planes all over the world.

In 1976, Woody married fellow King County officer, Judy Watson, later Sgt. Judy Inslee, who served from 1973-1982. They were married for 45 years and he was the love of Judy's life.

During the 30 years Woody and Judy lived in Canyon Park, summers were filled with family, friends, croquet, German Shepherd puppies and "hunting bear" in the woods. Woody's jokes and tricks with the children made many memories.

Before retirement Woody and Judy bought a boat he named "Judy's Fault". Many memories and scary adventures were made during those years with family and friends.

After Woody retired in 1997, Woody and Judy headed south in their motor home for a 5-week adventure to the Baja Peninsula, guided by his brother Dick (Kay). They parked on beaches, working their way South, giving licorice out at checkpoints.

Their next motor home trip was a multi-month adventure which started at the Ronald Reagan Library in San Clemente and ended in Atlanta at the Jimmy Carter Library. Woody had a fascination with the Civil War and had read about it extensively. Woody and Judy were able to visit old friends and numerous Civil War battlefields. Woody also read fiction extensively and enjoyed the many sailing adventures of Patrick O'Brien.

Woody was both a seasoned cook and an avid collector of firearms. He enjoyed both activities as he pursued his dream of retirement in Montana.

In his Montana years, Woody enjoyed his log home (once again, Judy's Fault) with acreage, majestic Bitterroot views and the many new friends he and Judy made. The visits of family and friends were always the highlight of their 10 years in Montana.

He and Judy recently returned to Washington to be closer to family. Woody loved his family and extended family, including his four children Forrest, Stephanie, Jef and Jennifer, his brothers Frank, Evan and Dick, special friends Tim and LeeAnn, his grandchildren including Ian, Erin and Kayra, many nieces and nephews, Judy's family, and many friends.

Aspects of Woody live on in the people he cared for, his sense of humor, his desire to be of service and his curiosity about the world around him.

Woody passed away on February 20, 2022 from Alzheimers' complications.

Woody was preceded in death by his mother Esther Inslee and his brother Frank Inslee.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.
