WA - Gary Neumann — In Loving Memory

Gary Neumann, 82, passed away at his home in Medina on October 15, surrounded by his immediate family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Susan.

Born and raised in Bellevue, Gary graduated from Bellevue High School in 1961 and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington in 1965. He later completed a Master's degree in Finance. During his time at UW, Gary was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), where he formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.

In 1967, Gary married Susan Horsfield, the love of his life. Together, they raised two daughters and built a life filled with adventure, laughter, and deep family connection. From camping trips across the Pacific Northwest to a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Africa, Gary cherished every moment shared with his family. He was immensely proud of his daughters—of the professionals they became, and of the loving families they built.

Gary enjoyed a distinguished career in finance. He began at Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker and Certified Financial Planner, later serving as a manager at E.F. Hutton and ultimately leading the Smith Barney office for upwards of 30 years until his retirement. His integrity, leadership, and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike.

A devoted community leader, Gary gave generously of his time and talents. He served as Moderator of University Congregational Church during the tenure of Pastor Dale Turner, and was President of Bellevue Rotary. He held board positions at Overlake Hospital, serving as Chairman from 1990 to 1991. He also served on the boards of Camp Fire and the American Cancer Society. His keen interest in history led him to serve as President of the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI). Gary played a pivotal role in its relocation to its current home, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

Gary's love of the outdoors was a defining part of his life. He found joy in boating through the San Juan Islands, fly fishing around the world, and returning year after year to Pennask Lodge in British Columbia. He was also an avid golfer, sharing many rounds with Susan and close friends. A loyal Husky fan, Gary attended UW football games for over five decades.

Gary is survived by his wife Susan; daughters Katharine Reagan (Cory) of New Canaan, CT, and Annamarie Meeuwsen (Michael) of Gunnison, CO; grandchildren Benjamin and Henry Reagan, and Cameron, Audrey, and Russell Meeuwsen; and his brother Marc Neumann. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cameron.

Gary will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family, friends, and community. His greatest joy and proudest legacy are his grandchildren, in whom his spirit, curiosity, and love of life will always live on.

"Life's too short not to cast the line, take the trip, and toast the people you love."
