Sequim, Washington - George Frances Cohee - of Sequim, WA, passed away on Sunday, February 28th. A loving husband, steadfast father, involved grandfather, and patient great grandfather; George always put his family first.
George was born October 10th, 1937 in Portland, OR, the son of Earl N. Cohee and Ruby R. Cohee. George graduated from Neah-Kah-Nie High School in Rockaway Beach, OR, in 1954 where he met his wife, Beverly Cohee, celebrating 66 years of marriage this past year. Thereafter, George relocated his family to Auburn, WA where he joined and thrived as a Farmers Insurance agent, eventually founding his own practice, the Cohee Insurance Center in Federal Way. In 1976, George founded Federal Way Auto Licensing to assist the state of Washington with vehicle and vessel transactions. His entrepreneurial spirit was always balanced with fairness, and he soon helped found the Washington Association of Vehicle Subagents (WAVS), to ensure subagents had advocacy and support.
All who knew George recognized his profound dedication to serving others. He had a generous heart and was a devout Catholic. George was active in his community, including the Federal Way Lions Club, Rotary and the local Chamber. In 2002, the Lions Club presented George with the Melvin Jones Award, the highest form of recognition bestowed to members who exemplify humanitarian ideas and exemplary service to the club and community.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ray and Earl Cohee. He is survived by his wife Beverly Cohee, brother Don (Nancy) Cohee, son Bob (Brenda) Cohee, and daughters Tereasa Eden (Gordy Howell), Jan (Dan) Novak and Cindy (Randy) Tyack; granddaughters April, Christina, Jennifer, Danielle, Corianne, Katie, Alicia; grandsons Josh, Nathan, Kenny, Greg, Zach; 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
George will be buried at Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way, WA. A Celebration of Life will be held at Brooklake Church in Federal Way, WA on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association.
