I served with Gerry for 8 years on the NAMI national board. He was always the voice of calm and reason and it was a pleasure to work with him on many issues. Our friendship continued when we were living on the West Coast.

Mr Tarutis helped me though a very difficult time in my life. He gave me a lot of encouragement. I am sorry to see that he is no longer with us.

Gere was one of the best attorneys that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He gave such excellent advice and was a champion for healthcare workers. I was given a referral to him by an opposing counsel who said they were very impressed with him. I made it thru some very difficult and dark times and Gere was there to help guide me thru. The legal and medical profession have lost a true hero. It saddens me to hear about his passing.

I had the privilege of working with Gerry over the last many years. His knowledge of trusts, maximizing benefits for those with special needs, etc. was vast. He was a good man, a delight to work with, very professional and always had that smile! His legacy is one of helping numerous people live enriched lives. He will be missed.

I find it hard to believe that this family friend and counselor for our special needs is not here. He was a compassionate and steadfast supporter of people diagnosed with mental illness, and of their families. Gerry, we miss you.

Doug and I were so shocked and saddened to learn of Gerald’s death. I’ve known of his great work in the mental health community for many years through my mom and dad’s involvement in NAMI. Doug and I got to know him when he was taking care of our own family’s needs. He was warm and had a great sense of humor. We always enjoyed visiting with him. We feel lucky to have known him. Having been Gerry's one-time colleague and former law partner, I am very saddened to learn of his passing. As his tribute relates, he was a very smart and talented man, deeply committed to justice and equity for all - and especially for those who were disabled or discriminated against for any reason. That will surely be missed, along with his robust, hearty laugh and the infectious joy he took in being a master host. My heart goes out to his loved ones.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline

Orders placed in:

January - May

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
