Grace McGarrity McLaughlin passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 26, 2024, just three weeks shy of her 98th birthday. She was immensely loved until the end, a testament to the love Grace shared every day of her life.

Grace was born on October 20, 1926, to John and Sarah McGarrity in Stonyford, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. She came to Washington in 1956 to attend her sister's wedding and made Seattle her home.

While managing Russell Stover's Candies in downtown Seattle, she met Joseph McLaughlin. The pair married and raised nine children together. Joseph and Grace were active members of Assumption Catholic parish and the Irish community. Their home was full of endless cups of tea for anyone who walked in the door. The tea was good, but it was Grace's company that kept visitors constantly finding a reason to stop by.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her son, Wally; and her siblings Jim Mulholland, Margaret Jordan, Kathleen Brankin, and Bernie and John McGarrity. She is survived by her siblings Annie Benzinger, Tom McGarrity, and May McCorry; and her devoted children Kathy Jordan, Mary Waller (Carl), Tom (Laurie Grove), Dan (Debra), Bernadette (Michael McNiven), Cecilia (John Haughney), Grace (Chris Miller), and John (Margot).

Grace adored her 10 grandchildren Bryan Waller (Molly), Christine Rew (Matt), Kris Foster, Brandon (Erica), Joshua, Joseph and Sarah Haughney, Meghan, Jack, and Kate. She will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, and a community of friends in Seattle and Ireland.

A Rosary on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. and a funeral mass on Thursday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. will be held at Assumption Catholic Church.

Remembrances may be made to Catholic Community Services or the Association for Catholic Childhood, honoring Grace's commitment to her faith and community service.

Grace's legacy of warmth, generosity, and humor will live on through the many lives she touched.
