Olympia, WA - In Loving Celebration of Hallie Price Saunders
On what would have been her 98th birthday, August 5, 2025, we celebrate the vibrant life of Hallie Price Saunders— a woman of creativity, faith in positivity, and love for family and friends.
Born in Portland, Oregon to Louise Bartel Mills (later Brushoff) and Hayden Mills, Hallie spent her school years in Portland, OR and Chehalis, WA. After graduating from Grant High School, she attended Oregon State University and then earned a degree in Interior Design from Seattle's Cornish School of the Arts.
Hallie worked in residential interior design before dedicating herself to creating a family home in Bellevue, WA (1952) with her then-husband, Robert C. Price, and raising two daughters. She was active in neighborhood associations, garden clubs, and civic organizations. Later, she returned to the workforce as a travel agent.
In 1992, Hallie moved to Camano Island with her second husband, Robert W. Saunders. She enjoyed an active life in the community through the Camano Island Study Club, Roaming Artists, and the Camano-Stanwood Arts Guild. She cherished her island home and the friendships it nurtured.
Hallie had the heart of an artist. Her language was color, texture, line, shape, and composition; design, style, and painting were her way of communicating her love of life and the natural world. Whether arranging seasonal tablescapes, designing cozy rooms, putting together a stylish outfit, or creating whimsical garden vignettes, she found joy and solace in the act of creation. Her creative expressions radiated warmth, love, and playfulness.
I miss her. She was planning for and curious about the future until the day she died.
She is survived by her daughters, Victoria Price and Elizabeth Todd (Stephen Feldman); grandchildren, Spencer Lindsley (Diana) and Grace Lindsley; great-granddaughter, Lilly Lindsley; and siblings, John Mills (Luanne), Tom Mills (Martha), and Elizabeth Holt (Wally).
We honor Hallie not in sorrow, but in gratitude—for her creativity, resilience, and love.
