Janet Marie Matheson Obituary

Janet Marie Matheson, 88, passed away on December 15, 2024.

Born in Chicago, IL, to Paul G. and Signe M. Peterson, Jan moved to the Pacific Northwest at age 9. She graduated from Queen Anne High School and obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. Jan's passion for the arts took many paths as an artist, art teacher, gallery owner, advocate for the crafts, and business manager for Intiman Theater, the Pantages, and the Museum of Flight. As an accomplished pianist, Jan played with the Seattle Junior Symphony and went on to instill a passion for all genres of the arts in her children and grandchildren.

Jan was the creative energy of the family. Along with her husband, Bill, they raised three amazing boys, all of whom became wonderful people. Jan lived a life of adventure, traveling to dozens of countries around the world. Her passion for art and adventure drove her to explore history and nature in many of the world's top museums as well as the wildest places. Grandchildren, travel, arts & crafts, music, and skiing were just some of Jan's passions.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, George William "Bill" Matheson (d. 10/15/24), of 63 years. She is survived by her 3 sons Kyle, Dale (Leah), Mark (Reina Nakamura), and 3 grandchildren.
