Janis Louise Valluzzo

Janis Louise Styskal Valluzzo was the only daughter of Betty Louise Kight and Anthony Louis Styskal, born in North Hollywood, California. With a proud Czech father and musically talented mother, she grew up with 3 brothers in a home filled with music, creativity and philosophical pursuits. After losing her father at the young age of 12, the family moved to Beaverton, Oregon where "Jan" to her friends, later became an Oregon Duck. With a taste for adventure and style, she left Oregon and traveled as a flight attendant for United Airlines. Jan's zest for life attracted the attention of a naval officer who was introduced to her by a life-long friend. She and Bob, her one and only, went on numerous adventures around the world before settling down and marrying in Menlo Park, California. Jan joined the Valluzzo family in Baton Rouge, enjoying their southern charm and family traditions, and later contributed 2 more to the Valluzzo name. With 2 young ones, Jan and Bob heard the call of the Pacific Northwest and followed in the family tradition of adventuring out to build their business.

Blessed with two children, Anthony and Lauren, Jan cherished the blessing of motherhood. A prolific reader, she taught them to enjoy the world of books and learning of every kind. Her bathroom best illustrates this, where one can find the works of Shakespear and Byron next to Erma Bombeck and Dr. Seuss, to enjoy while "preoccupied."

Everywhere she went, Jan sprinkled joy, laughter and magic, making instant friends and amazing Manhattans along the way. The ladies golf league, bridge tables, charity events and craft fairs were the norm, as were cocktail hours at the house. She created a home of inclusion and love, where many of her friends and friends of her children felt welcome. When grandkids came on the scene, true to form, Jan showered them with this love and attention.

Jan lost her battle with cancer and left a crater-sized hole in the world. She is survived and remembered by her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Vaughn Valluzzo, children, Anthony and Lauren, and her grandchildren Lucia, Lila & Lucien (of Kansas City) and Robert, Constantine & Violette (of Napa). An avid Seahawk fan, the family is especially grateful to the organization for arranging their second Super Bowl victory for her to enjoy.

In lieu of flowers, sprinkle magic the way she did by flashing a vibrant smile, sharing a joke and random act of kindness; and if motivated to do so, kindly direct donations to one of Jan's favorite charities: the Seattle Children's Hospital or Catholic Community Services-Western Washington.
