Washington - Jill Runstad Hally, 88, passed away peacefully in her home in Seattle, WA. on December 8th, 2025. Jill was born in Seattle, Washington and spent her formative years in Seattle and the Puget Sound at the Cheerio beach in Hood Canal, where she combed the beach for seashells, crabs, driftwood, and developed a taste for steamer clams and oysters. Jill came into this world in 1937 and was joined to a family deeply rooted in Seattle history, civic engagement, and the University of Washington. Her father, Hal, was a UW graduate and Boeing engineer; her grandfather Benson chaired the UW Chemical Engineering Department; and her great grandfather, J.T. Ronald, served as Mayor of Seattle, UW Regent, and Superior Court Judge of King County. Her mother, Betty, was an active civic leader in the community.
After graduating from Garfield High School in 1955, Jill went on to study at the University of Washington. While at the University of Washington, Jill was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Jill married during college and gave birth to two sons, John and Michael. Jill loved and cherished her husband and partner Gordon of 42 years, and lived in Corona del Mar, CA. for over 20 years. They shared a life devoted to family. Jill and Gordon routinely swam together along the beach in China Cove. Her professional journey led her into the arts where she enjoyed a lifelong pursuit as an artist and fine art consultant.
After retiring, Jill and Gordon moved to the Pacific Northwest where they lived between homes in Seattle and La Connor, WA. There, Jill continued her lifelong passion in the arts and continued to paint, collect art and create places of beauty in the Northwest, San Juan Islands and Skagit Valley. Jill and Gordon enjoyed skiing with their children and grandchildren in Deer Valley, UT and crabbing, sailing and beachcombing at their home overlooking Skagit Bay in the Puget Sound. While in Seattle, Jill spent time with family and friends at the Seattle Tennis Club, was actively involved at Epiphany Parish of Seattle, was a member of the Trust for Public Land and supported the local visual and performing arts. Jill lived through her final years at Parkshore, living independently and enjoying her community and led an active life as a part of this senior living community.
Jill had a passion for spirituality and had a deep faith in God. She will be remembered for her loving kindness, generosity, love for family, and her deep desire and passion for the pursuit of spiritual growth.
Jill is preceded in death by her husband Gordon C. Hally; parents Harold (Hal) and Betty Runstad; and her beloved brother Jon Runstad. Jill loved her family and is survived by sons John Day and Michael Day and Michael's wife Joy, who loved her deeply, and their children Kenzie, Mike, John, Danny and Jackie. She is also beloved by her extended family of Mark and Craig Hally and their spouses Lilin and Kari; and their children, Maya, Simone, Judson, William and Maelin. She is survived by her sister-in-law Judy Runstad; and nieces Stacey Runstad Campbell, Kayley Runstad Swan and their husbands Donald Campbell and Tony Swan.
