John Howard Bratland Obituary

John Howard Bratland passed away peacefully in Mount Vernon, WA on February 1, 2022.

Born in Ketchikan, Ak to Howard and Florence Bratland, John was raised in Ballard, Seattle, WA. Graduated from Ballard High School, class of '48. John married his "Best First Mate Ever", Dolores Mae Behling, February 27, 1952. They were blessed with three children. Janice, Karen and Johnny.

John spent his early years in the fishing industry. He changed careers in 1952 and spent the next 40 years in the timber industry. John and Dolores retired to the Shelter Bay Community, La Conner, WA, in 1992. They enjoyed many years of boating as Charter Members of The Shelter Bay Yacht Club and made many lasting friendships.

John was a lifetime member of Ballard BPOE #827, serving as Exalted Ruler 1966-1967. He was also active in Hoo-Hoo International and the Ballard High School Golden Beavers.

John was predeceased by his parents, wife Dolores, daughter Janice and sister Susan Richards. He is survived by daughter Karen (Malcolm) Unseth, son John F. Bratland, grandson Matthew (Christena) Unseth, great granddaughters Hailey and Madison, sister Judith (Lorne) Render, sister-in-law Phyllis Stucky and many nieces and nephews.

Private interment services have been held.
