John Louis Neal Obituary

Washington - Our husband and dad passed away at home, leaving behind his loving wife of 58 years, Kathy (Kathleen), his children, grandchildren, and so many others. He died knowing that his family would stay close, remembering him always. John was born in Kansas, grew up in Seattle and attended Roosevelt high school where he made lifelong friends. John and Kathy raised their family in Mountlake Terrace. John had two careers over the years. The first in the restaurant supply business, the second as a self-employed home remodeling contractor. He had a lifelong love of many music genres. Early in his marriage he loved playing dobro in a bluegrass band. In his later years he astounded us all by teaching himself to play the bagpipes. John loved exploring near and far. He was happiest when they just got in the car for a drive. He loved camping, fishing, motorcycling, and boating with friends and family. He restored his precious Model A Ford; putting around town, entering parades and going to car shows. He wanted waterfront property, so he and Kathleen built their own, a large pond that was labor of love that everyone enjoys today. As their beautiful garden evolved over 25 years, he was the hardscape guru as Kathleen designed and planted. He also loved to cook, creating many happy family meals, passing that talent on to his children. Ever the inventor and creator, he was a man who could build or fix most anything.

He was a quiet, good and ethical man, instilling integrity, endearing himself to all. We yielded a wide swath for his unencumbered passage. Although small in stature, he was a giant presence. He was an animal whisperer to any domesticated species he encountered. Over the years he has loved our many pets. His dog, Chloe, a constant and faithful companion, now misses him dearly.

John leaves behind his wife, Kathleen, his daughter Patti Howley and sons Chris and Scott Neal. He also leaves behind his sister Diana Thompson, five grandchildren, Addison, Payten, Zoey, Kyra, and McKenna, as well as other family, friends, and pets.

A celebration of John's life will take place with family and friends on Sept 18, 2021.
