Wa. - John passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side at the age of 84. He is survived by his son Mark Pariseau, Daughter-in-law Tina, grandsons Mikey, Joey & Daniel Pariseau as well as son Michael and daughter Julie Pariseau all of the Seattle area, and his brother Bill Pariseau of Cottonwood Heights, UT. As well as sister Jackie of Spokane, WA. John was preceded in death by his brother Ed Pariseau from Brewster, WA, and his sister Jeanne Pariseau of Spokane, WA.
John was born in Minot, ND and after briefly living in Virginia City, NV, and Prineville, OR He grew up in Kittitas, WA, and then went to high school in Tonasket, WA where he starred in football, baseball, and his true love, basketball. He also held a state broad jump record that wasn't broken for several years. John met his future wife, Carol Winslow there in Tonasket as well. He was recruited by the University of Washington to play basketball where he was the starting point guard from 1956-1960. During a game against Kansas John was set to take a charge from Wilt Chamberlin but was stepped/ hopped over instead. He also pitched for the winning 1959 baseball team that was inducted into the UW hall of fame.
John earned a Master's degree in physical education and a Bachelor's in Geology, he never missed the chance to point out glacial till or volcanic outflow to the grandsons on the many road trips they all enjoyed. He stayed at the UW for 50-plus years giving tennis and golf lessons at first and then became the director of intramural sports which oversees the IMA building, golf range, waterfront activities center, and many fields and courts. He was especially proud of the expansion project that gave the building its current look. He was also involved in the National Rec Sports Association for many years.
John loved coaching basketball, he coached the men's team at Shoreline CC for a couple of years before starting the very successful Brewster Packing AAU/ Club team with his brother Ed. The team traveled to and won tournaments in Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Ireland, Italy, and Korea as well as many in the USA, most notably the five national AAU championships. They also played the UW several times as well as many other college teams. John enjoyed taking his kids along to see the world as much as the coaching. He was also chosen as a coach for the 1995 Pan-Am games. John also was the AAU national President of men's basketball for many years.
John loved the outdoors, traveling, and having a good time! He was a good golfer and enjoyed playing with friends and family any chance he got. John will be dearly missed.
