John Francis Simpson

John Francis (Jack) Simpson, 90, died November 12, 2024, in Seattle Washington. He was born to Gilbert and Margaret (nee Hart) Simpson in Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School-Cleveland, Jack earned a baccalaureate from Loyola University-Chicago. He then served as a chaplain's assistant in the US Army. After being honorably discharged, Jack worked as a social worker for Cuyahoga County Child Welfare Services. His career included industrial sales positions in Cleveland and Texas. Beginning in 1998, Jack worked as an Intake & Referral Counselor for 14 years at Seattle Downtown Emergency Service Center. He was also a Relief Manager at Hilltop House (his home) for 20+ years, having retired in April 2024. In addition to spending time with loved ones, Jack participated in community theater. He was an avid logophile, crossword puzzle enthusiast and scrabble player.


Jack was the proud father of Margaret Ann of Chicago, Michael John of Cleveland and Joseph Paul of Seattle. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; siblings Leo (Elaine, deceased) Simpson, Carol (Edward, deceased), David (Sandi Schmidt); scores of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and his longtime partner, Darla O'Brian. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Margaret (John, deceased) Povolny, Patricia (Joseph, deceased) Bailey, Rose (Robert, deceased) Myers, William (Patricia) Simpson, Raymond (DeSales) Simpson and Richard Simpson. Jack donated his remains to the Willed Body Program of the UW Medical School.


A celebration of life will be held in Cleveland, Ohio in Spring 2025. Donations may be made to the Peggy Simpson Scholarship at the University of Dayton at http://your.udayton.edu/tribute
