Las Vegas - In loving memory of our father, Kenneth Ray Jallen, who passed away on August 6, 2023, at the age of 83 years old. He was born in Iowa to Joy Farrell and Gotfred Jallen. Ken sadly never met his father, as he died in World War II before he was born. He and his mother moved to Seattle, WA early in his life. He was a star running back at Queen Anne High School, popular amongst all and written up in the local newspapers. His athletics in football afforded him a scholarship to Western Washington University, where a knee injury sidelined his dreams of playing. An enthusiast of all sports, if he was not playing or coaching the youth, he was watching. Following his injury, he attended the University of Washington and then proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserves. He met his first wife and love Penny Moser in High School. Where his never ending charm, caused her to follow him, until he took notice of her. In 47 years of a devoted marriage, they proudly raised four children. Their partnership was one admired and revered. Through his 45 years in the Boeing Aerospace Industry, he, Penny and the kids traveled the States for different projects he managed. They experienced adventures, living in many communities and building new long-lasting relationships.
After the abrupt and heartbreaking passing of Penny in 2009, Ken was overjoyed to have met and married Ann Wilhite. They initially lived in Southern California and decided to uproot and move to Bullhead City, AZ. Painfully, Ken was to suffer another loss not long after they moved, with Ann's sudden passing in 2021. Following this and a short return to Hemet, CA, Ken decided to move closer to his daughter Dawn and son-in-law Randy in Las Vegas, NV.
Ken was an avid boater and excellent water skier, despite never learning to swim after almost drowning in the Ballard Locks as a young man. A story he lit up again recently, while sharing the harrowing details and how he outsmarted the currents and landed on his feet at the shoreline.
A cowboy at heart as shown in his pride and self-confidence while
riding his loyal Peruvian horse Verdugo, in the Pasadena Rose Parade on two cherished occasions. A smile ear to ear handsomely, will be a vision held close to our heart. He was always there for all of us, whether we needed help with our homework or just a shoulder to cry on. He was a man of strong integrity and he taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. We will cling to the many memories we have of his direct, honest, transparent, and quick- wittedness. Missed will be "una mas cerveza por favor" he jokingly requested on many vacations treasured in Lake Chelan, WA or the houseboat on Lake Shasta, CA.
Ken was preceded in death and has gone home to be with his mother and father, his first wife Penny Moser and his second wife Ann Wilhite. He is survived by his four blessed children he would amusingly call his fun killers, Brenda, Dawn, Ken Jr., and Kelley. His children's spouses Jeff, Randy, Nessa and Mark. His long-standing and loving relationship with Penny's brother James Moser and wife Vickie. As well as his cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie (Mack), Madison, Chase and Kevin.
A lover of music, there was not a dance floor in his reach, that did not call his name. I imagine his dance card is full in heaven as it was on earth. Daddy, please save a dance for Dawn.
In lieu of flowers, in honor of his military service and for his love of horses, please donate in memory of Ken Jallen with the Heroes and Horses at heroesandhorses.org.
