Larry L. Barokas Obituary

WA - Larry Louis Barokas was born in Seattle, Washington to Louise Bensal and Albert Barokas who emigrated from Istanbul, Turkey. The family were proud members of the Sephardic Bikur Holim. Larry graduated from Garfield high school and completed his education with a law degree from the University of Washington. He began his career as a Washington State Supreme Court law clerk then spent time as a prosecuting attorney for King County for four years before opening his own private practice in 1968. He continued practicing law his entire life.


In 1958, Larry met Joan Koppel and the story goes, he left their first date whistling knowing he met the love of his life. They married after graduating from the University of Washington and celebrated 65 years of marriage in July. They enjoyed traveling the world before welcoming two sons, Charlie (Carla) and Josh (Cherie). Larry loved being Papoo to his five grandchildren, Angelina, Charlise, Anthony, Hanalei and Delyn.


As a skilled lawyer, over his 57 years of private practice, Larry made a positive difference in so many people's lives.


His various talents included gardening and cooking, and he enjoyed a life-long interest in history. He participated in many sports, which included a legendary career on the Jewish Community Center basketball court.


Over his lifetime, Larry was a passionate supporter and contributor to many worthwhile causes. In his memory you are welcome to make a donation to your favorite charity.
