Larry Dale Nordby Obituary

Larry leaves behind a legacy of devotion, friendship, and love to everyone that knew him. Born in Ferndale, WA, on March 31, 1931 ("3/31/31 a great poker hand" - a favorite line of his), he spent his formative years there, and then Seattle, Vashon, and Edmonds. After graduating from Edmonds High School, Larry served his country in the U.S. Army for two years. He utilized the G.I. Bill and attended Western Washington University, playing basketball for the Vikings for two of those years. Larry spent the majority of his professional career at Bethlehem Steel Company, where he retired as Supervisor of Social Insurance and Employment. He spent 27 years at Bethlehem, while living and enjoying life on Vashon. As a founding member of Vashon Country Club, stories of golfing, coaching, and bartending were frequent and lively.

Larry returned to live in Edmonds in 1974, where he connected with longtime friends and a girl from high school, Joyce. They would become husband and wife and lifelong best friends, and he became a loving father to Kim and Stephanie. Larry had an opportunity to work for Tramco Inc., a subsidiary of BF Goodrich, as the Director of Human Resources, and he treasured those last seven years of employment. After retiring at age 62, he had a standing weekly golf game with friends, helped Joyce with trips and genealogy, enjoyed working in his garden, hosted many friends and family dinners, and attended as many UW Husky sporting events as he could. He was a football and basketball season ticket holder, and true Husky fan!

Larry's family legacy continues with his daughter Kim and her husband Glen Ryseff, daughter Stephanie and her husband Joe Joss, son Ron Himes and his wife Laurel. Grandchildren Ana, Hannah, Cole, Megan, and Zach all knew grandpa's love and guidance, and he will be missed greatly by all.
