Washington - Lawrence Vernon was born an only child to Rosa Elvigan and Vernon Erickson in Spokane, WA.
on 7-11-1939. He passed on 11-7-2024, at his home in Olympia, WA.
Larry's was a life of public service. In 1957, he graduated from Rogers High School. In 1962, he entered the U.S. Air Force, trained at Lackland AFB and assigned to Fairchild for two years, followed by 21 years in the Air National Guard. He retired as a Major.
In 1962, Larry was hired as a deputy by the Spokane Co. Sheriff's Office. Promoted as a Sergeant in 1968, Lieutenant in 1972, and appointed Undersheriff in 1977. In 1970, he was sent to the F.B.I. National
Academy, and in 1974, he was awarded a B.A. in Sociology from Whitworth College. In 1978, Larry was elected County Sheriff, and re-elected three more times retiring 12-31-1994. Three days later he became Executive Director of the WA Assn. of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Retiring in 2005, the agency honored him by naming their site the Larry V. Erickson Building. From 2007-2009, he served as deputy director of training for the WA State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
Larry's and wife, Peggy's committed lifetime journey began as colleagues, then friends. Early on they shared a spiritual bond, enjoyed family time and travel.
Larry's Celebration of Life will be at St. Placid Priory Chapel, 500 College St. NE, Lacey, WA 98516-5339
at 1:00 p.m., November 23rd. In lieu of flowers donations are appreciated to:
