Lawrence Edwin Parks (Ed) Obituary

Washington - Ed was truly a hometown boy. He graduated from Roosevelt high school in 1964, graduated University of Washington in Urban Planning in 1970 where he served as president of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and later received his Master's in Public Administration from Seattle University.

His optimistic outlook and leadership abilities appeared early as he attained Eagle rank in scouting and camp counselor duties at Camp Parsons on Hood Canal.

After a stint in the army as a currier for NATO and then Vietnam, Ed returned home to Seattle. He had a long and distinguished career with the Port of Seattle where he held multiple positions at the harbor and airport. Along with his normal duties, Ed enjoyed planning and implementing special-events - the 1984 NCAA final four championship, the 1990 Goodwill Games and the 1999 World Trade Organization Ministerial meeting.

Ed was passionate about many things however, cars were "in Ed's blood". His interest led him to the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) race circuits with his rotary engine Mazdas.

Ed loved Seattle. He was an active member of Rotary, was on the boards at South Seattle Community College Foundation and the Rainier Valley Food Bank and was in the first class of Leadership Tomorrow.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Dollard, his son Christopher Parks of Seattle and his sister Cynthia Parks Telford of Kirkland.

There will be a celebration of Ed's life Thursday, February 2, 2023; 2:00 -5:00 at South Seattle Community College - The Brockey Center - Side A.

Donations can be made in his name to Rotary International, South Seattle Community College Foundation or the Rainier Valley Food Bank.
