Wa. - Leslie Eugene Dicks passed away peacefully in Bellevue, WA, on February 11, 2026, at the age of 80, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's.
Born on March 9, 1945 in Seattle to Horace and Eileen Dicks, Les grew up in Bremerton, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports. A natural leader, he served as student body president and competed in varsity football and basketball at West Bremerton High School before attending the University of Washington. There, he played Husky football, joined the Sigma Nu fraternity, and— most importantly— met the love of his life and future wife of 57 years, Mary Margaret Bingham.
After serving in the U.S. Army as an officer, Les returned to the University of Washington for graduate school. His early life was defined by the deep, enduring friendships made during those years and he always made the most of every opportunity to celebrate with friends. Some would say, he was the life of the party.
Professionally, Les was a standout in sales at Xerox before taking a leap into entrepreneurship. Alongside his partner, Bob Bradley, he built a successful sales and marketing business in the photo-finishing equipment industry. Through a blend of luck and skill, Les and Bob successfully exited the company just before the technology crash and the widespread adoption of the digital camera— timing they both always considered fortunate.
Retiring at 54, Les devoted the next chapter of life to his true priorities: his family, friends, traveling, and helping others. An incredible father, Les, took great joy in actively coaching his children throughout their youth. His passion for mentorship extended well beyond his own family, as he guided hundreds of young athletes over the years. He particularly cherished the time spent coaching his son, Jeff, through high school, where they celebrated two State Championships for Bellevue High. Les remained a lifelong sports enthusiast with some of his fondest memories found in the stands at the University of Washington, watching his son, Daniel, play football for his beloved alma mater.
Beyond sports, Les lived a life of quiet service. Over the last forty years, he mentored countless people, dedicating his time to helping others overcome personal struggles.
In retirement, Les and Mary traveled extensively, visiting every continent and frequently inviting family and friends to join them. An avid golfer, fisherman, bridge player, and reader, Les will be remembered for his competitive spirit, his generous heart, and the profound integrity he brought to every relationship. He will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.
Les is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons, Daniel and Jeff (Caitlin); and his granddaughters, Charlotte and Taylor. He is also survived by his brother, Norm (Suzie); his brothers-in-law, Bob Bingham (Emily) and Tom Bingham (Pat Char); and his nieces and nephews, David Dicks (Antonia), Ryan Dicks (Ann), Stephanie Doss (Bryan), Christine Bagley (Travis), Matt Bingham (Lauren) and Nate Bingham (Maria); along with their children.
A celebration of life will be planned for the spring.
