Linda Link Rogers Obituary

Linda Link Rogers—beloved wife, mother, grandmother ("Nana Linda"), sister, sister in law, friend and devout Catholic—passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the age of 89. She was surrounded by family members.

Linda was born in Seattle on April 27, 1936, to Milton and Florence Link and grew up on Mercer Island. After attending Bellevue High School, she became a University of Washington Husky and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. Joy and energy are captured in TYEE pictures of Linda as Husky Song Leader, Freshman Homecoming Queen, and Seafair Princess. Linda loved to spontaneously perform Husky fight songs for her children and grandchildren.

Linda met fellow Husky Jim Rogers in 1958 on a blind date in Seattle and were married a few months later. Their marriage lasted nearly sixty years. Jim and Linda moved to New York for Jim's work, where Linda worked as a secretary at Rockefeller Center. There, the first of their six children was born; the youngest would arrive twenty years later. They eventually settled in Bellevue, where they raised their children. Sacred Heart School and Parish became the center of her spiritual and community life and where all the Rogers children attended school. A founding member of the Sacred Heart Monday night rosary group, Linda remained a devoted member.

After decades of spending summers on Vashon Island, in 1998 Jim and Linda retired to Burton Beach, a place long connected to their family and other families, all of whom formed a close-knit community. For Linda, the perfect day was a warm summer afternoon sitting on Burton Beach after a float in Quartermaster Harbor, then followed by visiting friends down the beach. It was a place where family, friends and summer traditions returned year after year. Today, Burton Beach is at the heart of the Rogers family.

Linda's unwavering Catholic faith shaped the way she moved through the world: optimistic and loving. In 1968, she used this strength to mourn the loss of her daughter Susan (age six). Linda would always say to her children and grandchildren: "aren't we lucky to have such an amazing family!" Linda cherished large gatherings, such as Christmas and Easter celebrations which often brought together more than sixty relatives. Linda was generous and she was a caretaker. If you were homebound, she brought you communion; sick, she brought you custard; incarcerated, she shared mass with you; and no matter the situation, she offered up prayers for you. She had a natural gift with babies and children, who were instinctively drawn to her warmth and kindness. She was grounded in the perspective and wisdom of her favorite quote: "this too shall pass." Her ability not to take life too seriously was a key part of the joy she shared with others.

Throughout her life, Linda remained active and energetic. She loved gardening, tennis, biking, and swimming, and for her 50th birthday she biked from Seattle to Portland in the STP. She also enjoyed long walks and playing bridge with friends. She delighted in beating her children at gin—something she continued to do until the last week of her life. Linda traveled extensively, from visiting her brother in Thailand and devotional sites in Europe and South America, to joining her children on their adventures in Europe, from cruises on the Baltic Sea to babysitting grandchildren in Rome to a beautiful wedding high in the French Alps. Even in her later years, after developing dementia, Linda continued to recognize family members and greet visitors with her familiar warm smile and gentle presence. After Jim's death, she was fortunate to meet the wonderful Sam Roehl, with whom she shared many cherished years of friendship, travel, and companionship.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her daughter Susan, parents and siblings John and Diane. She is survived by five children: Jim Rogers (Christine), Lisa O'Keefe (Tim), Kathryn Merlino (Steve), Mary Susan DeWine (David), and Paul Rogers (Julie); eleven grandchildren: Drew, Anna, Claire, CJ, Kari, Maia, Roman, Jonah, Nina, Emma, and Olivia; her brother, Tom Link (Pat); sisters-in-law Clair Ann Jenkins, June Kennedy, and Susie Rogers; companion Sam Roehl; and a large extended family, all who will miss her dearly.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on April 10, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on April 11, both at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seattle Children's Hospital or the St. Joseph Carmelite Monastery in Seattle.
