Of Anderson Island, WA, and most recently Milwaukee, WI, passed peacefully at home on June 21, 2025, after spending many days surrounded by family. She was 85 years old. Born in Oakland, CA to Harry and Mable Ward, Lorrie moved to San Francisco after high school. There she met her husband, Jim McLean, whom she married in Houston, TX in 1960. In 1961 they moved to Seattle, WA, where they lived and raised five children over the span of nearly 40 years.
Lorrie was heavily involved as a mother, always putting her childrens' interests and needs before her own. She volunteered with many school and church organizations, serving on PTAs, working with youth groups, and helping to run multiple fundraising auctions.
Those who interacted with Lorrie knew her as one of the most selfless people they would ever meet; she was always asking about others. She never gave up on people.
A skilled seamstress, quilter, and knitter, Lorrie developed a close-knit community on Anderson Island through weekly Crafters gatherings and making quilts for veterans through Quilts of Valor.
She was a die-hard Seattle Mariners fan, and reveled in following the team during the ups and downs over the years, listening to games on the radio, and sharing in her excitement with family. One of the highlights of Lorrie's fandom was attending the perfect game at Safeco Field thrown by Felix Hernandez in 2012 (long live the King).
In her final years, Lorrie made an unplanned move to Milwaukee. She and the family thank the entire Milwaukee community, the medical professionals, caretakers, neighbors, and family friends, who welcomed and supported her.
Lorrie is survived by Pam of Tacoma, WA; Brian (and Julie) of Bellevue, WA; Joseph (and Yoko) of Tsuruoka, Yamagata, Japan; Joan of Milwaukee, WI; and Andrew (and Melissa) of Milwaukee, WI; twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her close friend Kendel Lyman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Harriett and brother-in-law Bill, and her beloved husband of 50 years, Jim.
Lorrie would not want a big to-do but would instead insist that others be honored in her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Milwaukee Catholic Home - Employee Appreciation Fund to recognize the many caregivers that helped her in Milwaukee, and Quilts of Valor - Anderson Island to recognize her love of crafting and to support an organization that meant so much to her.
Lorrie will be laid to rest at Holyrood Cemetery (205 NE 205th St, Shoreline, WA) at 10 a.m. on December 26, 2025, to be followed that day by a celebration at the Edmonds Yacht Club (326 Admiral Way, Edmonds, WA) from 12-4, with food and beverages served. Guests are invited to join the family at Holyrood, the Yacht Club, or both.
