CA - Father L. Paul Fitterer, SJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Fr. Fitterer was 94 years old and a Jesuit for 75 years. Fr. Fitterer spent most of his religious life as an educator, counselor and pastoral minister, as well as in various roles of Jesuit governance. Fr. Fitterer was missioned for many years to Seattle Preparatory School, including time spent as rector of the school's Jesuit community, in the advancement office and as president from 2001-2003. From 1978-1987 he served as a counselor and teacher of theology at Seattle University. Fr. Fitterer is survived by his nieces Elli Falk of Lakewood, Elizabeth Ristine of Bainbridge Island, Joan Willingham of Medina, and extended family. He also leaves his Jesuit brothers and many dear friends and colleagues. A Funeral Mass for Fr. Fitterer will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 732 18th Avenue East, Seattle on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 11am.
