WA - Meng-Chao Yao died at his home in Seattle on October 27, 2025.
Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, he attended National Taiwan University before gaining his PhD at the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. After several years teaching at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, he and his family moved to Seattle, WA, to take a position as a research biologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Later, he returned to Taipei to take a position at the Academia Sinica, from which he retired in 2019, and continued to divide his time between Taipei and Seattle, where he continued to enjoy the beautiful natural landscape that surrounds us.
He is survived by his wife, Ching-Ho Chang, of Taipei and Seattle, and his daughter Kairu Yao, of Seattle.
