Muriel Rose Epstein Obituary

WA - Muriel Rose Marsh was born on Long Island, NY, on September 29, 1932, to Florence and Irving Marsh. She passed away on August 24, 2025.

At age twelve, her parents decided the family would benefit from leaving New York, so, like pioneers, they moved west. Irving & Florence opened Marsh's Menswear on Main Street in

Pendleton, Oregon. Along with her older brother Art, she enjoyed playing the piano and making friends. After graduating from high school at 17, Muriel attended the University of Washington in Seattle, where she joined Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and earned a degree in home economics, with a focus on nutrition.

At "UDub," Muriel met Maurice Epstein, a law student. She worked as a dietitian in New York and San Francisco before returning to Seattle, marrying Moe (December 1), and joining the large Epstein family. Muriel started her own business and worked for many years at the Kline Galland Home.

Their son Robert was born in 1960, followed by their daughter Esa in 1962. Muriel and Moe were blessed with grandchildren: Rob and Betsy gave them Forrest and Maya, and Esa gave them Ella and Isaac. Her role as Bubbe and Auntie Muriel was legendary and cherished by many nieces and nephews across generations.

Settling on Mercer Island, the Epsteins raised their children alongside both the Epstein and Marsh families. Muriel was always active—serving as den mother, class parent, running a cheese co-op, continuing her business, and staying deeply involved in her synagogue, Herzl-Ner Tamid. With dear friends Babette Schiller and Trisha Tsutakawa, she prepared lunches for the monthly senior movie events.

After Moe's passing in 2013, Muriel continued to live independently, walking daily, attending her book club, cooking, and enjoying the company of friends and family. She was strong, independent, loved to travel, and cherished spending time with her loved ones.

Muriel will be remembered for her infectious smile, open heart, wise words, and delicious food. She made friends easily and treasured her family above all. Truly, she was a mensch and a balabusta—a genuine and loving human being, whose memory we will cherish.
