Neil Pressentin Duncanson Obituary

Neil Pressentin Duncanson, MD, of Normandy Park passed away unexpectedly at home at the age of 91 on March 28th. Neil was born on November 11, 1932 at 11:00pm at Maynard Hospital in Seattle to Harold Bruce and Laura Beatrice von Pressentin Duncanson. Neil was a lifelong resident of Boulevard Park, Three Tree Point, and then Normandy Park with the exception of his years in medical school at Northwestern University, and his time in the Army at Fort Sill, OK.

Neil graduated from Highline High School in 1950, and then attended the University of Washington. Neil was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and Phi Beta Kappa. He met Maxine during high school, but it was during their college years that they became a couple. He graduated from the UW in 1954 with a BS in Zoology, Summa Cum Laude and then attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago.

While in Chicago, Neil and Maxine made many cherished friends, and often spoke of the hard work and fun times they had in Chicago. Just this past year Neil and Lori attended his 68th year class reunion and enjoyed seeing some of those friends. Medicine was an important part of Neil's life. For years he taught Neonatal Resuscitation classes, and retired as a full professor at UW Medicine in the department of Pediatrics. He always had a complete first aid kit at the ready and was ready to step in and help someone in need.

When Neil and Maxine returned from his service in the Army, they built their home next to Harold and Laura in Normandy Park. This was a project and source of joy for everyone in the family. Neil loved to be by the beach and watch the world passing by: wildlife as well as maritime traffic. During their decades there, they developed a close circle of friends that still are like family today.

One of Neil's favorite activities was heading out on the boat. Starting when he moved to Three Tree Point, Neil always had a boat of some kind. He and Maxine were founding members of the TTPYC and spent many years as involved members of the Seattle Yacht Club as well. Rain or shine, windy or calm, big boat or small, Neil loved to be on the water. Neil could look at a map of the Salish Sea....South Sound to the Broughtons and tell you a story about time spent in just about any place.

Neil was predeceased by his cherished wife, Maxine (LeDrew) Duncanson as well as his parents, Harold and Laura Duncanson, and his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Carol Duncanson. He is survived by his beloved children: Debbie, Doug (Carol), Hal (Kay) and Lori, grandchildren Erin, Lauren, Emily, Neil, Peter, Gail, Sarah, Henry, Maddie (Maxine), Mack, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Dave, as well as eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that donations be made to a children's charity of your choice or John Knox Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.

A memorial service will be held on June 1st at John Knox Church in Normandy Park WA at one thirty pm.
