WA - Ovita Leola Bonadie, known affectionately to all as Ovita, brought her vibrant spirit into this world on April 8, 1944, in the lush landscapes of St. Vincent, West Indies, and after a life rich with laughter and wisdom, took her final bow on September 15, 2025, in Federal Way, WA. She waged a valiant battle against leukemia with the same grace and stubbornness that characterized her approach to any of life's hiccups.
Born to Victor and Gertrude Bonadie, Ovita was the ringleader of merriment in a family that also included her brother, Errol Bonadie. Her legacy continued with her daughter, Kimberly Pearce O'Malley, her son-in-law, Chris O'Malley, and her adored grandchildren, Mads, Desmond, and Siobhan, who inherited her sharp wit and generous spirit.
Ovita's professional life was marked by her intelligence and tenacity, first as a Purchasing Agent for the Issaquah School District, then as Senior Buyer for King County/Metro. She wasn't just a whiz at snagging bargains; she was the unofficial morale booster, always ready with a quip or a kind word, proving that paperwork and laughter can indeed coexist.
Her spiritual nature was as expansive as her intellect, finding the divine in the pages of a book, the stitches of a knitting project (before she retired her needles), or the infectious chuckle that could light up a room. Ovita's faith was personal, profound, and laced with the understanding that the universe has a sense of humor.
An avid reader, Ovita devoured books with an appetite that was only matched by her love for sharing the stories she discovered. She could often be found recounting the plots of her latest reads with the dramatic flair of a seasoned storyteller, leaving her audience in stitches.
Funny doesn't begin to cover the essence of Ovita. She had a joke for every occasion, and her intelligence meant she could make you laugh and think simultaneously. Generosity was her default setting, whether she was giving her time, her attention, or the rings off her fingers. She was the friend you called when you needed advice, the colleague you leaned on during tough times, and the grandmother who would always sneak you an extra cookie (or five).
Ovita's life was a masterclass in joy and resilience. She taught us that a hearty laugh could be the best medicine and that the most profound truths often come wrapped in humor. As we celebrate her life, we imagine her delivering a heavenly stand-up routine, microphone in hand, with angels doubled over in laughter.
Ovita's departure leaves behind a void that will be filled with the echoes of her laughter and the memories of her boundless love. Her stories, her lessons, and her comedic timing will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. Ovita Leola Bonadie, the world is a little less bright without you, but heavens, are you lighting up the afterlife.
