Patrick Holt Hjorten (Pat) Obituary

Patrick Holt Hjorten, loving husband, father, PaPa, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away at the age of 89. He was born May 24, 1933 in Portland Oregon to Chet and Elizabeth P. (Miles) Hughes. Later adopted by Hjalmer "Futchie" Hjorten when his mother remarried. He grew up in Astoria Oregon with his sisters Marilyn (Larson) and Susan (Hjorten) surrounded by a large extended family and a deep connection to the Columbia River where at one time as a young man he drove a team of horses in the fish seining grounds. He attended St. Mary, Star of the Sea School graduating with a small class of forever friends including his cousin/best friend Maureen (Minsker). He went on to earn a B.A. from University of Portland before serving in the US Army, where he was primarily stationed in Germany. After the Army, Pat ultimately relocated to Seattle, WA where he spent the majority of his career as a photocopy salesman and owner of Allied Photocopy. In his retirement years, he worked as a real estate agent.

Pat, a lifelong Catholic, spent time volunteering with the church as an annulment advocate and singing in the choir for many years. His faith and faith community meant the world to him. He grew up fishing, duck hunting and clamming and enjoyed sharing those activities with his children. Pat, a three-sport athlete in high school, passed on his love of sports to his children and grandchildren by spending time as a coach and vocal spectator of their many endeavors.

Pat is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gail Hjorten, his four children Kristi Damour (Steve), Wendy Werner (John), Chris Hjorten (Jennifer) and Ryan Hjorten (Tina) and eight grandchildren.

There will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church 8900 35th Ave NE Seattle, WA on Monday May 22, 2023 at 11am followed by a graveside service at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline.
