It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Petros Nicholas Farmasonis, who passed away peacefully at his home on October 21, 2025.
Petros was born on August 1, 1932, in the village of Agia Sophia, Argos, Greece. He was the beloved son of Nicholas and Fotini and grew up alongside his siblings - brothers Vasilis and Kostas, and sisters Maria, Evangelia, and Georgia.
Growing up during the hardships of war and occupation, Petros developed resilience, a strong work ethic, and a lifelong love of learning.
In 1952, at just 20 years old, he emigrated to the United States through a program for orphaned childrenleaving Greece with little more than courage and optimism for the future. He was sponsored by his Thea and Theo, Nick and Helen Carras, and Efthalia Gregores. Soon after, he became an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and joined the AHEPA in Seattle.
Petros met the love of his life, Colleen Rockas, at a Greek picnic. After a few dates with her, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served for two years at Fort Hood, Texas, operating a tank he affectionately named "Colleen."
He became a U.S. citizen in 1954 while serving and was honorably discharged in July 1955. Upon returning home, Petros began working at a steel foundry in Seattle, later taking on a second job as a waiter and bartender at various restaurants. His strong work ethic and dedication led him to restaurant management, including managing the Olympic Grill at the Olympic Hotel, and eventually to entrepreneurship.
In 1958, Petros married Colleen, beginning a 65-year marriage filled with love and partnership. Together, they raised two daughters, Faye Marie and Nicolette.
In 1966, Petros opened The Greek Village Restaurant, which he owned and operated until 1978. In 1980, he opened Theo's Pizza and Pasta in Mountlake Terrace, running it successfully until his retirement in 2006.
In retirement, Petros devoted his time to his family, friends, and favorite hobbies: golfing (as a longtime member of the Nile Country Club since the early 1970s), walking with friends, gardening - where he lovingly grew vegetables, herbs, flowers, and, of course, his cherished fig tree and cooking, which his family and friends will miss dearly.
Petros was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Colleen, who passed away in 2023.
He is survived by his daughters Faye Marie and Nicolette; grandsons Alexander (Nadina) Wolfe and Nicholas (Melissa) Farmasonis; most recently great-grandparents to his namesake -great grandson little Petros Nicholas Farmasonis; sister Georgia Verdos; sister-in-law Bettyann Nassar; nephew Basel (Ylse) Nassar; great-nephew Evan Nassar; and great-niece Maria Nassar.
May his memory be eternal.
