Oregon - In loving memory of Rebecca C. (Rumsey) Mefford, who passed away while surrounded by family on October 6, 2025 in Portland, Oregon.

Becky was born in Seattle on January 15, 1953 to John W. Rumsey and Janet E. (Nelson) Rumsey. She lived most of her life in Bellevue, where she and her husband also raised their three children. Becky spent her childhood swimming for the Seattle Tennis Club, boating in the San Juan Islands, snow skiing, water skiing, playing tennis and exploring the surrounding woods of her home. She graduated in 1971 from Bellevue High School, where she was active in the Bellairs choir, Girl Scouts, Young Life, varsity tennis and ski patrol. Becky attended the University of Washington and was a proud Husky! During school breaks, she worked in Yellowstone National Park, Sun Valley, and Hawaii. She was a member and Song Chairman of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Education in 1975. An affinity for the arts led her to a management career in the arts and crafts industry.

Becky was passionate about music, reading, painting, gardening, and swimming. She and her family shared countless outdoor adventures backpacking, mountain climbing, summiting Mt. Rainier, river rafting, skiing, and playing tennis. She also found special joy in exploring rocky ocean beaches and tide pools. Becky radiated warmth and had a good sense of humor. She had a heart for adventure and embraced every opportunity to be in nature. With a brilliant smile and quiet integrity she inspired her children and grandchildren to be kind, compassionate, and to see nature with a sense of wonder.

Rebecca is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Dennis Mefford; daughters Shannon (Louis) Bokma and Melissa (John) Schick, son Benjamin Mefford; her brothers John (Maureen) Rumsey and Michael (Judy) Rumsey, her sister Frances Mack; her nephews, nieces; and her six grandchildren. She dearly cherished her family and many lifelong friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Rebecca will be held at University Presbyterian Church, 4540 15th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA on January 15, 2026 at 1:00pm. Reception to follow.
