Richard (Toby) E. Tobin Obituary

Olympia, Washington - Surrounded by his family, Richard Eugene Tobin passed peacefully May 7, 2021. Born in Seattle, he spent his youth in Cle Elum before moving to Mercer Island in 1942. He attended O'Dea High School and proudly graduated in 1946, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Occupation Forces in Japan and was left with a lasting appreciation of Japanese culture. He was an avid football fan of the WSU Cougars and Notre Dame Irish.

In the summer of 1950, he met his perfect match, JoAnne Brotherton. They married on May 17, 1952 and raised 8 children who honor their father for his many sacrifices, loving heart, enduring Catholic faith and generous nature. He was known for his hospitality- from his children's friends, to neighbors, to visitors from other countries. He was devoted to family, which includes 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. His gentle manner will be long celebrated.

Dick worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 42 years, earning recognition for his attention to detail and friendly demeanor. He retired in 1990 as a Commercial Forecaster. He then built a dream home for JoAnne in Copalis Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 69 years JoAnne, sister Joyce Baldwin, children Mark (Marie-France), Tim, Todd, Leanne Ferrante, Melinda Bouillon (Linc), Mary Meulblok (Dirk), Matt, Barbie White, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by newborn sons Edward and Eugene, sister Jackie Axling, daughter-in-law Lynn, and grandson Houston.

A Funeral Mass will be held on June 3 at 11:00 AM at St. Jeromes' Catholic Church, 15 Patrick Way, Ocean Shores. A Life Celebration will be held on June 27 at 1PM, at Lacey Community Center, 6729 Pacific Ave S.E., Lacey.
