WA - Bob was born in Connecticut and later moved to Seattle to attend Lakeside School, where he graduated in 1959. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English from Whitman College and later completed his Master's degree at the University of Washington. His love of language, storytelling, and communication shaped both his career and his many personal interests.
While at Whitman, he met his best friend and future wife, Diana Tellefsen, through his role as President of his TKE fraternity. They married in 1965 and cherished 60 years together. They had no children but built a full life in Seattle, rich in friendships and community.
In 1966, Bob joined The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, where he built a distinguished career over the next decade. He held a range of editorial and advertising roles, eventually becoming Automotive Editor in the early 1970s, writing a weekly Sunday column covering the auto industry. In the mid-1970s, he was named Automotive Advertising Manager and became head of the paper's automotive advertising division. After leaving the P-I, Bob transitioned into human resources with the Pacific Maritime Association, where he worked until his retirement.
Bob accrued more than a thousand volunteer hours at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle, blending his love of sailing with service. He and Diana shared a passion for travel and bed and breakfasts, annual visits to the Southwest, and their houseboat on Portage Bay where they lived for forty years. Bob also cherished the works of Jane Austen, whose wit and agility with language echoed his own sensibilities.
Bob leaves behind a wide circle of friends and colleagues who will remember him for his warmth, intellect, quiet humor, and steady integrity.
