Washington - Robert Leslie Rassilyer, age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife Ada and children on October 3, 2021 in Normandy Park, Washington. Born on January 18, 1944 in Seattle, Washington to Claude Nicholas Rassilyer and Ellen LaVerne Rassilyer (Ramsden), he was the second of five children, survived by eldest brother Ronald Rassilyer, sister Sharon "Shoo" Elverum (Dave), sister Celeste Halford, and sister MaryAnn Haines (Bill). Fondly known as Bob, he grew up in the greater Seattle area and attended St. George Catholic School and Cleveland High School on Beacon Hill. Upon graduation, he entered the Air Force and served at the Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, Washington, supporting plane maintenance. Bob worked often in material service roles throughout his career, which landed him in healthcare at Cabrini Hospital and later Swedish Medical Center First Hill as a supervisor of the Materials Service Center. Bob retired soon before his first grandchildren were born, and he remained a dedicated "Papa" the past decade.
Bob's faith was central to the way he lived and how he raised his family with his devoted wife, Ada Wai Ling Rassilyer (Fung). Ironically, St. James Cathedral, which served as a constant fixture in Bob's adult life, was the location where he met and fell in love with Ada. While participating in the Mass, he was enamored by the beautiful woman who unknowingly sat in his regular seat that he frequented every Saturday Vigil Mass. Introduced by a mutual friend, he quickly fell in love with her kindness, devotion to God, and tolerance of his funny sense of humor. They married May 23, 1981 at the site of their meeting, and began a family together soon after. Returning to the Beacon Hill area of his youth, Bob and Ada raised six children, Renee, Angela, Bryce, Brigitte, Brianna, and Blake. Working hard to ensure his children attained a Catholic education, both Bob and Ada sacrificed to send all six children to Villa Academy, Seattle Preparatory High School and Seattle University.
Bob was a family man and loved his grandchildren dearly. He rocked his grandbabies in his notorious 1980's rocking chair, and he was highly involved in their upbringing. He found joy in attending family functions and celebrating together. His jovial spirit and generosity to family, friends and strangers was consistent, and the simplicity of which he lived his life demonstrated his humble and loving character. Always known for his jokes and witty comments, Bob could disarm any person and leave them in a happier state. He will always be remembered as a man who was patient and kind, who was at peace because of his faith, and who served as a husband, father, and Papa to a family he loved above all else.
Bob's legacy will live on with his wife of 40 years, Ada Wai Ling Rassilyer (Fung), his six children including Renee (Shawn) Rassilyer-Bomers, Angela (Travis) Greenfield, Bryce (Cynthia) Rassilyer, Brigitte (Jeffrey) Krier, Brianna (Robert) Miller, and Blake (Amanda) Rassilyer. He is adored by his grandchildren, including Isabella Bomers, Shawn Bomers, Jr., Wyatt Bomers, Viviana Bomers, Brooklyn Greenfield, Logan Greenfield, Theodore Rassilyer, Olivia Rassilyer, Henry Rassilyer, Easton Krier, Charlotte Krier, Robert Miller, Richard Miller, Ramsden Miller, Anthony Rassilyer, and Genevieve Rassilyer. He is also survived by his siblings Ronald Rassilyer, Sharon "Shoo" Elverum (Dave), Celeste Halford, and MaryAnn Haines (Bill).
His Rosary will be held Sunday November 7, 2021, from 2-5pm at Yahn and Son Funeral Home, 55 West Valley Hwy S., Auburn, WA 98001. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday November 8, 2021, at 10:30am preceded by a viewing beginning at 9:30am at St. James Cathedral, 804 9th Ave., Seattle, WA 98104. The Final Committal will be reserved for close family and friends at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery, 37600 Pacific Hwy S., Federal Way, WA 98003 at 1:30pm.
