Robert Henry Spencer, Jr. Obituary

Robert Henry Spencer, Jr. passed away at his home in Bellevue, Washington on Christmas morning from Parkinson's Disease and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He was 75.

Robert ("don't call me Bob") was born on October 24, 1947, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Margaret (nee McCurdy) and Robert Henry Spencer. After serving in the Navy, Robert graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and received an M.A. in urban studies from Portland State. He then began doctoral studies at the University of Washington in urban history and energy policy. In Seattle Robert met and married Karen Larson, his wife of 44 years. Karen and Robert moved to Bellevue, where they raised their son, Elliott.

Robert worked in administration at Puget Sound Energy from 1980 to 1993. Joining Accenture in 1994, Robert acquired deep expertise in change management, advancing Accenture's global leadership development practice, including stints in Toronto and London. After retiring from Accenture in 2009, Robert founded Change Consulting Associates. From 2011 until shortly before his death, Robert greatly enjoyed teaching change management and business consulting to MBA students at the Albers School at Seattle University.

An avid golfer and consumer of political news, Robert was known for his storytelling and endless stream of always corny and mostly hilarious jokes. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, he celebrated his 60th birthday by performing a standup routine before an audience of friends and family. His customary farewell was a cheerful "toodles."

Robert is survived by his wife Karen Larson, son Elliott Spencer, sister Barbara Williams, niece Nora Johnson, and nephews Brett Williams, Grant Williams, and Peter Johnson. Robert's parents and brother William Spencer predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Albers School at Seattle University or Seattle Humane Society.

At Robert's request, a private memorial will be held later. Please join us in raising a glass of excellent wine to Robert and bidding him "toodles."
