Robert B. Street, 92, of Burien, Washington, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024 in Burien with his loving wife, Lorraine of 72 years, at his side. Bob was born on February 1, 1931 in Walville, Washington, to Oletha and Burke Street. He graduated from PeEll High School in 1949. It was in PeEll that he met his future wife, Lorraine Hutchison.
Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951. He returned home from basic training for a few weeks and married Lorraine, on March 24, 1951. Bob was then Stationed in Korea on the front lines. Later, the Army selected him to play clarinet in the Army band. He played for, and with, many of the great USO singers, musicians, and entertainers of the time. While in Korea, Lorraine and Bob welcomed their first son, Robert Jr. They would soon welcome Gary, Cindy, and Lora.
Bob graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in music in 1956. He taught band in Granger, WA prior to settling in Burien in 1961. Bob later successfully owned and managed several businesses.
Bob Street was well known in the music scene in Seattle. He played tenor sax and clarinet with several jazz groups and shows, including the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. He was truly a Master of Jazz; always challenging himself to become better. His jazz clarinet - including Dixieland, Swing and Bebop- was awe inspiring. Bob played his tenor sax up until a week before his death. More importantly, he passed his love for music to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He made sure they ALL had instruments (most of them clarinets, alto and tenor saxes). Future great musicians are in the wings - thanks to you, grandpa!
Bob Street leaves behind his loving wife, Lorraine; his children, Robert Street Jr. (Chic), Gary Street (Sherry), Cindy Kastner (Mark) and Lora Steele (Michael); his grandchildren, Sharon Martin (James), Joelle Johnston (Seth), Gary R. Street (Lacey), Matthew Kastner (Veronica), Katelyn Kafka (Jason), Michael Steele Jr., Jaime Knowles (Jeff), Christina Robinson (Brad), Robert Steele; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Duane Street; and one great-grandchild, E'Dee Lorraine Johnston.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in Burien, WA. A reception will follow.
